BUCK HILL BLOG

Get the inside scoop on the latest and greatest at Buck Hill!

SEVEN NIGHTS A WEEK. ONE PRICE. EXCUSES GONE.

Winter has a habit of getting overcomplicated. Skiing turns into an all-day commitment. Snowboarding starts to feel like something you need to plan for, budget for, and clear your schedule for. And when the barrier gets too high, even the people who love the sport end up skiing less than they want.

Late Night Lift Tickets at Buck Hill are designed to fix that.

No gimmicks. No rotating deals. No need to plan your entire day around a few runs. Just a simple, repeatable option that works with real schedules and real budgets: $20 online, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., seven nights a week. This is skiing stripped down – time on snow, minimal friction, and a reason to say yes more often.

Consistency Is the Feature

The biggest advantage of Buck Hill’s Late Night Lift Tickets is the consistency behind it. Same Price. Same Hours. Same Ticket. Every Night. There’s no guessing involved. Late night skiing always runs from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., seven nights a week and the Late Night Tickets are always $20 when purchased online. Weeknights and weekends – nothing changes.

You don’t need to check which night is cheapest. You don’t need to wait for a deal. You don’t need to justify the cost. At just $20, skiing and snowboarding fits cleanly into a normal evening without feeling like an indulgence. It’s affordable enough to be casual, and that’s intentional.

When the price, timing, and access never change, late night skiing stops being a special occasion and starts becoming routine. Tuesday nights after work. Sunday evenings after the weekend winds down. A spontaneous stop when the conditions look good.

One of the fastest ways to skip skiing is to overthink it. Late night tickets eliminate that problem. There’s no comparison shopping, no calendar math, no internal debate about whether tonight is “worth it.” If it’s after 7:00 p.m. and you want to ski or ride, the answer is already decided – yes with a Buck Hill Late Night Ticket.

A Better Way to Spend an Evening

Late night skiing works because it fits into real life, and not because it asks you to rearrange it.

The 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. window is long enough to get quality laps and short enough to feel manageable. You can eat dinner first. You can show up after work. You can still be home at a reasonable hour. There’s no pressure to maximize every minute or justify the trip with a full-day experience. You show up, ski or ride, and leave satisfied. That’s what makes spontaneity possible.

Late night tickets make it easy to decide late. If the weather looks good or you just want to move, you can be on the hill without turning it into a production. That flexibility matters. It turns skiing into something you can do on a whim instead of something you need to plan days ahead.

Most evenings blur together. Late night skiing gives them purpose. Instead of another routine night at home, you get lights on the hill, world class terrain, five freestyle parks under the glow (and the Midwest’s only halfpipe), best best après-ski hangs at Buck ‘54 Bar & Grill, and that unmistakable feeling of doing something worth your time.

The Bottom Line

Late Night Lift Tickets at Buck Hill work because they fit real life. They respect your time. They respect your budget. And they don’t ask you to overthink it. No pressure. No planning. No inflated expectations. Just $20, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., seven nights a week, and a simple reason to ski or snowboard more often.

If winter’s here anyway, you might as well use it. Buy your Late Night Lift Ticket online, show up after 7:00 p.m., take a few laps, and do it again next week. That’s how late night skiing works at Buck Hill, and once you start, it’s hard to stop.

HOW HANDS-ON INSTRUCTION BUILDS LASTING SKILLS

If your child has ever announced they “learned a new ski move” from a video then immediately tried it at full speed, you already know the limits of YouTube instruction. Watching skiing and learning to ski are two very different things. The real question for parents isn’t whether their child enjoys skiing, but how to help them become more confident, capable, and safe on snow. That’s where structured programs like Bucky’s Ski Club at Buck Hill quietly make a big difference.

Why Structured Instruction Works

Children learn best by doing, adjusting, and repeating with guidance. Videos can’t adapt to a child’s stance, balance, or comfort level. At Bucky’s Ski Club, expert instructors provide real-time feedback that helps kids build strong fundamentals and progress safely.

In a ski club setting, participants are coached and supervised in an age-appropriate environment where safety and technique come first. As skills improve, confidence grows. Kids learn to make smart choices on snow and skills that build independence parents can trust.

Bucky’s Ski Club delivers meaningful winter activity that’s physical, social, and screen-free. Skiing builds balance, strength, and coordination while the club environment fosters friendships, teamwork, and communication. The consistent Sunday schedule gives kids structure, routine, and visible progress they can be proud of.

Give your child the structure, coaching, and community that turn good skiers into confident ones. Register for Bucky’s Ski Club today and watch their confidence grow one turn at a time.

HOLIDAY BREAK IS HERE

December 22nd, 2025 – January 2nd, 2026

Holiday Break at Buck Hill is when winter hits full stride. The hill is fully open, the energy is high, and the calendar is packed with skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, live music, and one of the most anticipated New Year’s Eve celebrations in the region. For seasoned skiers and riders, it’s a chance to rack up laps from morning through night. For families and first-time guests, it’s the perfect window to step into winter sports with structure, support, and plenty of off-snow fun.

Holiday Break is also the busiest time of the season which is why planning ahead makes all the difference. With extended hours, all trails open, multiple freestyle parks, snow tubing, lessons, live entertainment, and fireworks, Buck Hill offers more ways to enjoy winter than ever. This guide breaks it all down so you can spend less time figuring things out and more time enjoying the snow.

Holiday Break Extended Hours: Ski More, Ride Longer

Winter Break is all about maximizing time on snow, and Buck Hill delivers with extended daily hours throughout the holiday period. Weekend laps are already underway, and starting Monday, December 22, 2025 Holiday Break hours officially begin.

Holiday Break Hours (12/22/2025 – 1/2/2026):

Daily: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Christmas Eve (12/24/2025): 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Christmas Day (12/25/2025): 2:00 PM – 9:00 PM

New Year’s Eve (12/31/2025): 9:00 AM – 11:30 PM

These extended hours give guests the flexibility to ski early, take a midday break, or enjoy night skiing under the lights. New Year’s Eve stands out as a late-night celebration, combining skiing, snowboarding, tubing, live music, and fireworks show all in one place.

Planning Tip: Holiday Break is peak season. Arriving earlier in the day and purchasing tickets online (Buy Area Lift Tickets HERE  and Snow Tubing Tickets HERE) helps avoid lines and ensures access to your preferred activities.

Terrain Update: Every Trail Is Open

One of the biggest milestones of the season is simple but significant: all trails at Buck Hill are open! With every run ready for action, guests have access to a full range of terrain designed to serve everyone from true beginners to advanced skiers and riders chasing speed, steeps, and repetition.

Buck Hill’s trail layout allows new skiers and snowboarders to progress comfortably while giving experienced guests the opportunity to link laps efficiently.

Beginner Terrain (Green Circle) | Perfect for first-timers and those building confidence, these trails focus on consistent pitch and wide spaces for learning: Rail Yard, Mouse Pass, Little Jibber, Woodchuck Way, Coyote Cutoff, and School Yard

Intermediate Terrain (Blue Square) | A step up in pitch and length, ideal for skiers and riders ready to advance their skills: The Knob, Warner’s Way, Sailer’s Chute, Olympic Dreams, Dash’s Drop, Red Tail Ridge, and Teacher’s Pet

Advanced Terrain (Black Diamond) | Designed for experienced skiers and snowboarders who want steeper terrain and faster laps: Crossroads and Milk Run

With the entire hill open, guests are encouraged to choose terrain that matches their ability and progress gradually. Make sure to read through the Responsibility Code & Park Smart information HERE. Trail signage and the Buck Hill Trail Map (HERE) help guests navigate confidently throughout the resort.

Freestyle Terrain & Halfpipe: Built for Progression

Freestyle skiing and snowboarding are central to Buck Hill’s identity, and Holiday Break delivers a full lineup of terrain parks designed with progression and safety in mind. Each park is maintained daily, clearly signed, and built to provide appropriate challenges for different ability levels.

Open Freestyle Terrain Parks:

Never-Ever: Extra-small and small features, ideal for first park experiences

The Knob: Small and medium features

Redtail Ridge: Medium and large features

Little Jibber: Small, medium, and large features

Each park has its own layout and flow, allowing riders to choose features that align with their comfort level and skill set. Guests should always follow posted signage, inspect features before riding, and progress gradually.

The Halfpipe

Buck Hill is home to the first halfpipe open to the public in North America, a point of pride that continues to draw riders from across the region. The halfpipe remains a cornerstone of Buck Hill’s freestyle offering and is complete, ready for riding, and in great shape!

Note: The Rail Yard trail is fully skiable, but the Slopestyle Park is not yet built.

Snow Tubing: Winter Fun Without Skis or Boards

Snow tubing is one of the most popular Holiday Break activities and for good reason. It’s fast, exciting, and requires no experience, special equipment, or technical skills. Guests simply grab a snow tube, hop on the lift, and enjoy the ride.

Snow tubing is ideal for: families and groups, first-time winter guests, groups looking for a shared activity, and anyone who wants winter fun without skis or a snowboard

Holiday Break tubing sessions fill quickly, especially on weekends and evenings. Booking Snow Tubing Tickets online (HERE) in advance is strongly recommended to secure your preferred time slot.

Winter Break Live Music: Après, Buck Hill Style

Plan ahead, arrive ready, and enjoy everything Buck Hill has to offer this Holiday Break.

This season, Buck Hill is excited to roll out a major upgrade to our rental fleet: the Burton Step On® System, a premium snowboard rental setup designed to make learning easier, riding smoother, and the overall experience better for everyone.

To break down what makes this equipment so special, Buck Hill’s own Matt Guf sat down with Jayson Henderson from Burton Snowboards for a deep dive into the technology behind the new boards and why they’re a game-changer for beginners and seasoned riders alike.

A System Designed for Learning

One of the biggest takeaways is that not all snowboards are created equal, especially for beginners. Burton has spent years researching how new riders learn: what slows them down, what makes them fall, and what helps them progress faster.

These new Burton rental boards are built specifically with those insights in mind. Highlights include:

Extra-Soft Flex

When you’re starting out, you’re not carrying much speed, and turning a stiff board can feel like wrestling a 2×4.
These boards flex easily, helping riders:

Flat Top Bend + Early Rise

Burton’s Flat Top profile keeps the board stable underfoot while lifting the contact points. That means:

Easy Bevel Base

The base of these boards is slightly beveled, making it easier to roll from edge to edge without catching. For anyone who has ever caught their toe edge and slammed… this is huge.

True Twin Shape

Forward or backward—these boards ride the same. Perfect for progressing, experimenting, and building confidence.

Built on Real Research

Burton has spent years working with beginners, instructors, and kids to refine this technology. The result? A rental board that practically wants to turn. Even with minimal input, the board initiates turns smoothly, helping new riders progress faster than ever.

This isn’t just a generic snowboard, this is a purpose-built learning tool.

The Burton Step On® Advantage

This premium setup wouldn’t be complete without the Burton Step On® system – Burton’s revolutionary binding technology that eliminates the need for traditional straps.

With Step On, riders simply:

  1. Slide their heel into the binding
  2. Click in
  3. Start riding

It’s fast, intuitive, and especially helpful for beginners who struggle with strapping in or balancing on the snow. Less time sitting, more time shredding.

Great for All Levels

Even though this system is designed to help beginners succeed, intermediate and advanced riders will still have a blast on these boards. The flexibility, playfulness, and ease of use make them incredibly fun even for riders with experience.

Pairing Buck Hill’s high-quality instructors with Burton’s beginner-friendly equipment is the ultimate way to learn. Snowboard Lessons become smoother, confidence builds faster, and falls are a little less… dramatic.

Our instructors are trained, supportive, and ready to help you get the most out of the new Step On system. It’s always a good idea to book a lesson if you’re just starting out.

Available Now at Buck Hill

The Burton Step On rental system is officially part of Buck Hill’s rental fleet and we can’t wait for you to try it. If it’s your first day on snow or your fiftieth, this new rental setup will help you ride better, learn faster, and have more fun than ever.

Come experience the future of snowboarding now available at Buck Hill.
